魔鬼的陷阱 InthetimeofCounter-Reformation,魔鬼的陷阱amillerandhissoncomeunderinvestigationbyapriestoftheInquisition,色即是空2qvodwhenrumorsspreadthattheirprosperitycomesfromworkingwiththeDevil.TheDevil’sTrapisafilmdirectedbyFrantiekVl?il,basedonanovelbyAlfrdTechnik,adaptedbyFrantiekA.DvorkandMiloKratochvl.ItwasthefirstofthreehistoricaldramasthatVl?ilmadeduringtheCzechNewWave(technicallyheisn’treallyapartoftheNewWave,howeverthesefilmsweremadeduringthesameeraofartisticfreedom),precedinghismorewellknownMarketaLazarov(1967)andValleyoftheBees(1968).Setinthelate16thCenturyduringtheCatholicReformation,intheMoravianKarst,situatedinwhatisnowtheEasternCzechRepublic,ittellsthetaleofamiller(VtezslavVejrazka),andhissonJan(VtOlmer),whocomeundersuspicionandareinvestigatedbyaJesuitpriestoftheInquisition(MiroslavMachchek),whenrumorsofwitchcraftarespreadbythelocalregent(CestmrRanda),whoisjealousofthemiller’sprosperityanddegreeofrespectamongthelocalpopulace.AsexpectedfromVl?il,thisfilmisastunningexperienceallthewaythrough.Fromtheopeningshot,anominousmanipulationofperspectivewithacloseupofamangledfigureofChristdominatingtheforegroundagainstatinyfigureinblackwalkingalongthehorizon,tothebreathtakingconfrontationalfinaleinsidethevaststalactitefilledKarstcaverns,itisawonderfuldisplayofvisualmastery.MaybenotquiteasimpressiveasMarketaLazarov,butstillfullofastonishingimagery.Asseenfromuniqueanglesanddistinctpointsofviewwhichhighlightthedirector’sremarkablesenseofawarenessofframing,motion,andpositioningontheemotionalanddramatictoneofthescene.Themostmemorablebeingarepeatedshotwherethecameraissuspendedandlaunchedwithspeedthroughtheairtowardsthemiller’sdoor.ThestoryhereisasimpleoneandIwouldsaymoreaccessiblethanhislaterworks.Withaconventionalstructureemphasizedasmuchbyitsplotandcharacters,thanbyitsexpressionisticcinematographyorauthentichistoricaldetail.Theeventsplayoutwithoutmuchsurprise,andthereisastrongunderlying,almostsupernatural,mysteriousaspectthatisleftunresolved,infactbarelyexplored,whichisslightlydisappointing,butonlybecauseit’ssofascinatingthatIwishtherewasmore.Actingisgreatallaround.Particularlythevillains:MiroslavMachchekasthepriest,castingasinisterandimposingshadowwhereverhegoes,andCestmrRandaastheweasellikeregentbehindallthepersecution.WhileVtOlmerbringsacharismaticleadingmanpresenceinhisroleasthemiller’ssonJan,inlovewiththelovelyorphangirlMartina(KarlaChadimov),whobecomesadangerousobjectofrivalrybetweenJanandotheryoungmenofthevillage.ThefilmalsofeaturestheevocativemusicofZden?kLika(perhapsthemostprolificcomposeroftheCzechNewWave).InthishissecondofelevencollaborationswithVl?il,hiscompositionsareusedsparingly,buttogreateffect,complimentingbutneveroverpoweringascene.Thebestexampleofwhichcanbeheardinanamazinglyshotcelebrationanddancesequenceattheendofthesecondact.TheDevil’sTrapmightnotbeamasterpiece,butitisstillastrongeffort,withafascinatingstraightforwardstoryandaglorioushistoricalsettingcapturedbeautifullybyVl?il’sunmistakablevisualprowess.AfineworkthatwouldalsobetheperfectstarterplatetoprepareyourselfforthechallengingfeastofMarketaLazarovorTheValleyoftheBees.Itevenhasaneasytodigestrunningtime.It’sthereforepuzzlingwhythisgemremainslargelyoverlookedandignored.李真明抽着烟，将我拉到一旁，避着陈芳，压低声音道“脸很生，新来的？小子，道上的？是你破了我的局吧，敢破我局，信不信我弄死你。”嘛？苏丽芝扭着腰高傲地走到她跟前，讥诮，杨绿萝，你自己犯下的蠢事，还不准让人笑了？莫佑庭不禁暗想，她似乎身上带着一种莫名的魔力，牢牢吸引住你，即使置身于人群中，也能让人一眼就能看见。凤西灵怜悯的看了他一眼，道:”太子殿下思虑周到，只是我凤西灵，从未想过和别的女人共伺一夫，更何况是自己不爱的人。”
